1989 Catalina 42

Catalina built its reputation around practical, well-designed cruising sailboats that deliver real comfort, strong owner support, and excellent value. The Catalina 42 is one of the brand’s landmark models: Catalina’s own history notes the first Catalina 42 was built in January 1989, with 100 hulls delivered in the first year alone, breaking U.S. production records. The Catalina 42 earned its following because it brought together the qualities sailors actually want: a powerful yet manageable masthead sloop rig, a large cockpit, clean decks, strong interior volume, and genuine sailing ability. YachtWorld’s review notes the Catalina 42 was the first American yacht in her class to offer three staterooms, while also highlighting the model’s large cockpit, lines led aft, walk-through transom, and strong performance reputation. “Vennskap”, a 1989 Catalina 42 Tri-Cabin, captures exactly why this model became so successful. Her three-cabin layout makes her ideal for cruising families, guests, shared ownership, or extended time aboard, while the warm Catalina interior provides the kind of space and comfort that turns weekends into longer adventures. With a generous salon, practical galley, private owner’s cabin forward, twin aft cabins, and two-head arrangement typical of the early tri-cabin layout, Vennskap offers rare flexibility in a proven 42-foot cruiser. This is a boat built for memories: morning coffee at anchor, easy passages between ports, and the kind of relaxed cruising lifestyle Catalina owners know so well.
