What an accurate listing presentation actually contains

Most brokerage listings give you a boat's year, length and asking price. A proper overview tells you what it is like to own her.

Ask ten brokers for a listing presentation and you will get ten PDFs of photographs with a spec table bolted to the back. It is not that they are wrong. It is that they answer almost none of the questions a serious buyer actually has.

What usually gets left out

Service history in detail, rather than as a reassuring adjective. Which systems have been replaced, and when. What the last survey found and what was done about it. Hours on the mains — and the hours that matter more, on the generators, which is where neglect shows first.

None of this is difficult to assemble. It is simply work, and it is work that benefits the buyer rather than the person writing the document, which is why it usually does not get done.

Why it sells boats faster

A buyer who receives a thorough overview arrives at the sea trial already informed. They are not discovering problems; they are confirming what they were told. Surveys turn up fewer surprises, negotiations get shorter, and the deals that were never going to work fall apart early rather than six weeks in.

It is also the thing clients mention most often, unprompted, years afterwards.
